We’ve used a basic surge protector from Walmart before and had zero issues with it. It did the job and kept things simple. Now we’re using the Power Watchdog PWD50EPOW Smart RV Portable Surge Protector (50 Amp), and while it’s definitely a step up, it comes with a few extras that you may or may not actually need depending on your setup.
What makes this one stand out is the built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. You can connect it to an app and monitor your voltage, amperage, and wattage right from your phone—which is pretty cool, especially if you like keeping a close eye on your power usage.
That said, full honesty—we haven’t really used the app feature much yet because we just haven’t needed to. The unit itself works great right out of the box, even without all the smart features.
